Song Details
No Rush
It’s the 2nd period on your average school day at CSArts, right before a small break from classes. In one classroom you have Dexter funkin’ and groovin’ as he does, in another you have Evan sitting at a piano, and in a third you have both Devin and Luc reading books as part of an assignment. As soon as the bell rings Mt. Pool meets up in Practice Room 304, which is their everyday hang and rehearsal spot for all free time at school.
Evan starts to share a piano progression and some lyrics to a verse that he had just written about a cute office TA in the previous block. As the band starts to put it together, Luc is coming up with a driving chorus progression on the guitar. Meanwhile Devin is writing more lyrics based on the book that he had been reading in the block prior (Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance) and thus the chorus is born, inspired by the dream of an open highway with zero worries in the world. There’s No Rush.
Not long after, the song became a regular in Mt. Pool’s live sets and now a recorded version is finally available for all to enjoy. The song remains an image of the time that Mt. Pool attended arts school together, with the freedom to meet between periods to practice and write.
Catalina Sun
Sitting in the backyard on a couch surrounded by imaginary Mt. Pool superfans, the band came up with an idea to change the world, a song so epic that people were going to flock from all corners of the world just to listen to it. The song was to be called “Drop the Bomb” and in the excitment of the incredible title of the song, the boys forgot to actually write it!
So, laughing about what a goofy idea it in fact was, instead of dropping the bomb they dropped the idea entirley and started in a new direction to write “Catalina Sun”. “Catalina Sun” is the colorful reflection of string lights on a canopy next to the backyard couch (you too can make your own Catalina Sun at home!). The tagline, “if you wish hard enough, it's true” is a reminder that you can achieve anything that you set your mind to.
Love As I Do
“Love as I Do” was one of the earliest Mt. Pool songs ever written. Evan had written a bass line and wanted to show the band, but there wasn’t a bass in the room so he instead picked up a guitar. Devin said, “that’s not a bass line, it’s meant to be on guitar” and ran up to his room to grab some lyrics that he had written from an abstract vision in early days of experimentation. He had never found the right flow or rhythm to use the lyrics in a song but something about the guitar line just felt right.
The groove has evolved and changed throughout time but the message remains, and the low key feeling of the song is essential to any laidback time you may have to sit down and just be.
My Companion
In an after school meeting at The Deck in late 2017, Evan began to share with the band a groove the band latched right on to. As Luc started adding lead lines and bits to it, Devin pulled out some notes he had written while procrastinating in a Spanish class earlier that day (the lyrics to “Good Morning” from “Splash!” were also written on that same day on the back of the same page). After recording a very slow demo track the band began to play it live and realized that it fit much better as a fast and driving rock song.
The first verse invites a lady (or anyone really) to a concert to float through the stars, the pre chorus let’s all worries drift away as the music begins, and the chorus explains that no matter what happens music will always be there for you, “When you leave, Music will stay”. By the second verse, the lady is no longer there but sure enough, music is.
Perfect Place
Perfect Place changes the tone of the album a bit and is a slow, sad song with a positive twist in the end. Luc’s guitar line is inspired by a particular Paul McCartney finger-picking style that really captures the mood of the song and is in large the basis of the melody.
From Devin on the Lyrics:
“I’m not sure who needs to hear this, but this is for you (warning it’s a little sensitive and may contain triggers for some). The lyrics of the first verse come from a very fragile time in my life where I was writing about depression and dreaming of a place in which life could be better. As the first verse and chorus describe, I was considering the possibility that maybe that place is in the afterlife and to that suicide is a fast track to get there. That first verse and chorus were originally all that was there and it was a very dark and real thought at the time.
As the years went by, I got a little help from my friends and family, and in what felt like the blink of an eye, I became the extremely happy and positive person you would see today.
The second verse was written a couple of years after the first, in a much better place, and they go on to realize that this “perfect place” doesn't actually exist and there is no fast track to get there. So instead the lyrics show that you can visit that “Perfect Place” at any time just by thinking of it and making it your reality.
Life is an incredible gift, and I now live in my perfect place everyday.
“Alive and free to do as we do.”
Please, if you or anybody you know is considering taking their life, create your own perfect place in your mind and work everyday to make it your reality. This life is mighty strange and there are certainly twists and bends all along the way, but it’s getting better all the time and if you just keep on trucking, you will achieve your goals and much more along the way. ”

It is never too late to find your Perfect Place.
Splash
Just a groove, and to us, this is the perfect place to hang out. Chords from the mind of Evan and a groove put together by the band, “Splash” is, funnily enough, not on the album “Splash!” but has been enjoyed in many different ways in live shows, sometimes with guitar solos over it and others with guest artists and friends of the band, like Resek, to freestyle or solo over it. Devin and Evan have written lyrics to the chorus, but decided to keep them in the vault and let the song be a moment where the album can just breathe.
Set Aside Your Problems for Tonight
This is really our message as a band. There’s a lot going on at all times for everybody, and anybody could have an array of problems and concerns at any given moment, but when you’re at a concert or when you just need to release some stress, we urge you to “take all of your worries and leave them” and just live in the moment. Not forever, because you best deal with those problems eventually, but everybody needs a break sometimes. The long solos played by Luc and Evan depict the way that Mt. Pool is known to Jam in live settings, and is a middle ground between studio and live Mt. Pool. Set Aside Your Problems for Tonight was released as a single in late 2021 in preparation for the album release.
For Me
A guitar line written by Evan for Luc to play and lyrics started by Devin for Evan to sing, For Me is actually a song for you! As time has gone on Everybody added their touch to the song and it evolved into what it is now with lyrical contributions by Evan, more lead lines added by luc, and major groove added by Dexter. “For Me” is another calm place for the album to just be. Some bits inspired by simple spots such as a ladder behind a small store, and others inspired by a feeling of being content and happy, here it is, “For Me”, is actually for you!
Fading Sunshine
Imagine Devin and Evan trespassing in a very obvious place in the middle of a beautiful summer day with a guitar, a backpack, a notepad, and intentions to write a new song. That new song was “Fading Sunshine” and it became the closing song for every set Mt. Pool played for the first two years of the band’s live performances. Although, a song was not the only thing born that day, as this trespassive hike led to a sacred spot in which the band name was found.

No Rush
Why is it now that you said, you’re never making promises?
(promises)
You gave me question marks over my head, when you said
(You’re not making sense)
You smile I smile back your heels then click across the floor
(your smile oh your smile, your smile oh your smile)
I turn to strike up a match, and everything goes black,
(Black)
There’s no rush, there’s no rush,
There’s no rush, your touch means the world to me
Follow the signs, drive to
The open road, try to
follow me all the way
Take left on highway, follow to my driveway
Don’t be afraid
You’re not saying what’s next, cause you don’t want regret
(And that’s okay with me)
I caught you laying on the lawn, get on up and move on
(Get a move on, oh get a move on, get a move on, oh get a move on)
In your grass stained t-shirt, you said you don’t want to hurt
(Did someone hurt you too?)
I got a sense from your look that you’re willing to wait
(But not too late)
There’s no rush, there’s no rush,
There’s no rush, your touch means the world to me
Follow the signs, drive to
The open road, try to
follow me all the way
Take left on highway, follow to my driveway
Don’t be afraid
I said
There’s no rush, there’s no rush,
There’s no rush, your touch means the world to me
Follow the signs, drive to
The open road, try to
Follow me all the way
Take left on highway, follow to my driveway
Don’t be afraid

Catalina Sun
This is the best it’s ever been, but it always is
Every place I’ve been feels new
Why can’t the stars and sun come together to make a perfect one
If you wish hard enough it’s true
If you wish hard enough it’s true
I wanna take your hand and be there
I don’t want an end
When the sun comes out at night
And stars all come alive
This is the best it’s ever been, but it always is
Every place I’ve been feels new
Why can’t the stars and sun come together to make a perfect one
If you wish hard enough it’s true
If you wish hard enough it’s true
Everywhere I go
I see you
You’re always in the corner of my eye
When the sun comes out at night
And stars all come alive
This is the best it’s ever been, but it always is
Every place I’ve been feels new
Why can’t the stars and sun come together to make a perfect one
If you wish hard enough it’s true
If you wish hard enough it’s true
If you wish hard enough it’s true
If you wish hard enough it’s true

Love As I Do
She’s the woman they all fall for the unknown in what’s known
All we know is how to find her but she’s lost and I’m alone
And I don’t know who she is or what I am to do
All that’s helped me get along is the thought that I have you
In my abstract sense of vision I see what’s hard to do
The answer I’ve been searching for can only be found in you
The change in the challenge and the twist is in the words
But follow chains long enough and basics will be sure
Surely you speak of time as I do
But I can’t be sure because I am not you
She thinks and breaths in rhythm, the only way she knows
It’s naturally free that she decides where to go
Try to see beyond the system of violence and greed
We’re all brothers and sisters, someday you’ll agree
The change in the challenge and the twist is in the words
But follow chains long enough and basics will be sure
Surely you speak of time as I do
But I can’t be sure because I am not you
The beauty is in the blankness where the normal eye can’t go
The beauty is where it’s needed, deep down below
We’re not alone in the world, and that you best believe
You can search for a meaning but it’s never as it seems
So just live for the moment so that someday you may go
Those answers we're searching for
We may never know

My Companion
Hey you pretty lady with the stars in your eyes
How about a ride to those stars tonight
Your groove and your moves are getting wildly tight
With the shine of your shoes in the neon lights
A mix of booze and the blues got me feelin’ wired
And the moon's hint of blue builds an ominous fire
If you have any plans or any place to be
Throw them away and fly away with me
Let music be your escape, let’s fly
Don’t hesitate
Music is my companion, fired by my musical cannon
Across the sea, music and me
Music makes it go away, goodbye to the pain
Music makes it go away, when you leave
Music will stay
When I’m alone, I’m free
Nothing but air surrounding me
Scent of you as I breathe
But I know that’s not what I need
From the mountains rolls the rain
Under my head and throughout my brain
Lost in myself and in my thoughts
Can’t tell what’s real or what’s not
Let music be your escape, let’s fly
Don’t hesitate
Music is my companion, fired by my musical cannon
Across the sea, music and me
Music makes it go away, goodbye to the pain
Music makes it go away, when you leave
Music will stay
(Guitar Solo)
Let music be your escape, let’s fly

Perfect Place
I dream of a place to lie in the sand
One full of peace and love in our hands
A place to think and let out our thoughts
I’d call this place the perfect spot
Waves slowly crashing and no one’s around
Guitars in the distance make beautiful sound
A place where I’m lost but myself could be found
Thoughts in my head go round and round
Time's forever and my thoughts are too
Sun sets on the sky that is blue
The clouds are gold so i look straight up
Pourin’ peace in my happiness cup
The day never ends, I’m my own friend
I follow the road as it twists and it bends
I dream of this place at day and at night
I’m ready to go cause now is my time
I look at the world and stand on the edge
My perfect place is all in my head
Here I will stay, cause this is my place
I can visit at will any night or day
I found it in you, it all feels so new
Alive and free to do as we do
I’m here when I’m sad, happy or mad
A place for me to love what I have
Time's forever and my thoughts are too
Sun sets on the sky that is blue
The clouds are gold so I look straight up
Pourin’ peace in my happiness cup
The day never ends, I’m my own friend
I follow the road as it twists and it bends
I dream of this place at day and at night
But here I will stay cause this is my life

Set Aside Your Problems for Tonight
You broke the ashtray just to throw the ash away
And now your cigarettes are smoking out the wind today
You focus slowly as if you know me
And now you're saying there's some things you gotta show me
It was a nice day until you brought all that my way
And now the bluest skies are looking to be dark and grey
You're spoken slowly, you're just not flowing
So get on up like that old wind lets get to going
Don’t you ever look back
There’s no time for that
Let go
Set aside your problems for tonight
Take all of your worries and leave them
Look around me as we stroll
The time is ours we're in control
It’s rearranged, what’s dark is gold
Dark is gold
Take all you think you know
Change your ways it’s not difficult
It’s okay you’re a free soul
So free your soul
Don’t you ever look back
There’s no time for that
Let go
Set aside your problems for tonight
Take all of your worries and leave them

For Me
The face in the sky
Is holding hands with time
The emerald vines
Bring out her opulent eyes
All that I need is here
I’m at peace... at last
All the stars above
Look at me, and laugh
This is better than I ever thought it could be
It’s the best I could ask for and it’s all for me
For me, for me, for me, for me
Arms around as we stare
Beauty and wonder fill the air
Arms around as we laugh
I take my mind and you take half
All that I need is here
I’m at peace...at last
All the stars above
Look at me, and laugh
This is better than I ever thought it could be
It’s the best I could ask for and it’s all for me
For me, for me, for me, for me

Fading Sunshine
So much for the sunrise
I’ll see it in your eyes
So much for the clear skies
But I’ll be alright
So yeah don’t you change
You walk for minutes while you say my name
Turn around whip your hair back
Take a nap and relax
Realize what you want next
Tell me how get it off your chest
Come on now you know the rest
Walk on out to the sunset
So much for the sunrise
I wanna see it in your eyes
So much for the clear skies
But I’ll be alright
I’ll be alright
(solos)
So much for the sunrise
I won't see it in your eyes
So much for the clear skies
But I’ll be alright
I’ll be alright

Tuesday Night
Sometimes when I’m down I wish the world would just end
But tonight I’m catching feelings from the feelings that you send
When I saw you first, I knew just what I was to do
So I walked up and I tried to talk to you
You had a couple drinks because the last guy did you wrong
And if he hadn’t I wouldn’t be writing this song
He’s the reason you were at the bar late on a Tuesday night
The reason that I met you and I fell in love on sight
He left you face down on the floor and you left me feeling right
All that I remember is that I fell in love late on Tuesday night
Lalalala-lalalala late on Tuesday night
Lalalala-lalalala love on sight
Lalalala-lalalala late on Tuesday night
Lalalala-lalalala love on sight
You used to make me feel like the world would never end
Now I watch you catching feelings from the bottle that he sent
When I saw you leave I knew just what you were to do
Now I see another guy dancing with you
I watch you take a drink because you think I did you wrong
And if I hadn’t I wouldn’t be writing this song
You’re the reason that I’m at the bar, late Tuesday night
The reason that I saw this unspeakable sight
You left me face down on the floor while you’re out feeling right
All that I remember is that I lost my love late on Tuesday night
Lalalala-lalalala late on Tuesday night
Lalalala-lala lost my love on sight
Lalalala-lalalala late on Tuesday night
Lalalala-lala lost mylove on sight
